Case Study 1- Wind Turbine Gearbox

Camco Engineering was contacted by an Australian renewable energy operator to provide independent wind turbine gearbox reporting. The aim was to undertake a thorough revision of all tower transmission units to assess their condition and provide an independent review of the condition of the equipment.
Problem:
The units were approaching the end of their warranty period and there was uncertainty regarding the possibility of failure.
Solution:
Camco Engineering provided a gearbox refurbishment team experienced in repair and servicing of wind turbine transmission units to carry out internal and external inspections. Using visual inspection practices, oil samples, vibration analysis, temperature and an internal endoscope camera it was possible to thoroughly assess each unit. Further to initial assessment recommendation was provided for regular monitoring or unit removal for thorough investigation and refurbishment.
Outcome:
Camco Engineering’s climb ready site team assessed each unit and provided independent prognosis of each transmission unit. Professional reports provided the client independent advice which aided the asset owner in determining ongoing reliability of each unit.

Case Study 2 – Steam Turbine Machining

Camco Engineering is a key repairer and component manufacturer for some of Western Australia’s largest steam turbine operators. Substantial facilities coupled with specialised equipment and skilled tradesmen provide the foundation for our association with the power generation industry.
Problem:
The client required a company that could work closely with OEM engineers to undertake complex modifications and full overhaul of a steam turbine rotor and inner cylinder casing. The client required uninterrupted 24 hour access to facilities and key staff familiar with turbine refurbishment to ensure timely completion of the works. The client also required access to private office facilities for OEM engineers for the duration of the overhaul.
Solution:
Camco Engineering facilitated the client’s requisites by providing access to well maintained precision machining equipment capable of achieving tolerances required for turbine operations. Skilled tradesman experienced and familiar with turbine material machining were assigned to work with OEM engineers to ensure appropriate machining techniques were employed. OEM engineers were accommodated in our client office facilities allowing continuous management and access to staff during the turbine upgrade.
Outcome:
The complex refurbishment and modification was successfully executed within the allocated time frame. Camco Engineering again proved its ability to provide quality staff, management and equipment and to deliver an exceptional outcome meeting or exceeding client expectation.
